The Blazers lost their final pre-season game Friday night to the Denver Nuggets by a score of 129-96.
Defense this offseason was the main thing that Neil Olshey wanted to improve. He added defenders such as Robert Covington, who is an elite help defender, and Derrick Jones Jr who is an exceptional defender in zone coverage. Terry Stotts also said during an interview, that he would switch up his defensive schemes so that he would no longer just drop-the-big. These factors have yet to add up this preseason. Fans are hopeful that the Blazers will have a better showing on this end when they open the regular season up against the Utah Jazz on December 23rd.
CJ McCollum got the start at point guard tonight, as Damian Lillard got the night off for rest. McCollum scored 26 points and dished out two assists. He shot 8-for-20 from the field and 2-for 5 from three. Rodney Hood also got his first start since tearing his achilles, and he put up 7 points and 3 assists in 19 minutes of action. As a team, the Blazers only assembled 17 assists along with turning the ball over 15 times.
