Damian Lillard struggles, as Portland Trailblazers lose to the Utah Jazz 120-100.

Jusuf Nurkic gets ready for game - Bruce Ely / Portland Trailblazers.

The Portland Trailblazers came out strong, but there’s nothing to say after that, as they fall to the Utah Jazz by a final score of 120-100.

The Collapse

The Blazers looked fantastic in the first four minutes, starting with a beautiful cut from CJ McCollum to a wide-open layup and then ending with an open-corner-three from McCollum. After these four minutes of excellent basketball, the Jazz went on a 49-31 run to end the half. The second half was no-different-outcome from the first, as the Jazz took a 31 point lead with seven minutes to go in the 3rd Quarter, and from that point, there was no saving. Much like the Los Angeles Lakers did in the last postseason, Utah swarmed Damian Lillard with multiple defenders after coming around the pick-and-roll, which held Dame to 0 points in the first half, which is the first since November 2018.

Notable Player Stats

McCollum had four rebounds and three assists to go along with his 23 points. Jusuf Nurkic, in his first “real” game back in the Moda Center, scored 13 points along with three rebounds and three assists. Carmelo Anthony led the bench in scoring, bringing in 15 points on 5-for-12 (41.6%) shooting.

What’s Next

The Blazers will conclude their two-game homestand on Saturday at 7:00 pm. PT against the Houston Rockets (for now) and then will head to California, for a four-game road trip.
