CJ McCollum hit a go-ahead with 6.3 seconds left in overtime, leading the Bla zers to a close 128-126 win against the Houston Rockets.
Four Houston Rockets players: center DeMarcus Cousins, point guard John Wall, shooting guard Eric Gordon and guard Mason Jones – who were considered close contacts under the NBA’s COVID-19 protocols will be forced to miss Saturday’s game against Portland, a league source told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Ben McLemore and Kenyon Martin Jr. are also away from the team and self-isolating, and Chris Clemons is lost for the season with an Achilles injury.
The CJ McCollum Takeover
The Blazers fell behind in the first half by a score of 68-58, due to bad sets on offense and lack of attention on defense. The second half was a completely different story, as they outscored James Harden and the Houston Rockets: 55-45. After two missed free throws from Jusuf Nurkic and a missed mid-range shot from Damian Lillard in the final moments of the 4th Quarter, the game headed to overtime, but McCollum was ready, as he dropped 7 points in the five minute period, including a clutch three to get the Blazers their first win of the 2020-21 NBA Season.
Notable Player Stats
McCollum had eight assists and a career-high nine three pointers to go along with his 44 points. Lillard, had an off-game, but still dropped 32 points and nine assists on 5-for-13 from behind the arc. Enes Kanter was the leading scorer off the bench, scoring 10 points and nine rebounds in 18 minutes of action.
The Blazers head to California for a four-game road trip, facing the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night at 7:00 pm P.T.
